Couldn't sleep thinking of nonsense. Facebooking didn't help. It's getting boring
Watched CSI NY with hubby last night about Adam stalking online using 'Nexting' kinda social network while doing his database search or dry lab experiments and then he bumped into a murder. Told Mac Tyler and the whole team prioritised the case to solve who killed the victim. Name any databases, even they have hammer database..that's too good to be true for a lab to have all sort of databases. Wish can work with that kind of database
Back to story of readjusting..yea..one of my 'toy' is dead. No chance to repair. Never had any major problems before I went off studying over "the sea". Tired of listening to the 'person' that cause this 'bad' fate. Life must go on.
Juggling to follow the needs of being on "a world class research", on ISO, on 5S, on commercialisation, on adjunct campus, on getting funding, on getting collaborators (not entirely my needs though..it's crazy)
and then..re-acclimatize back with the infective questions like our bussiness is theirs: like "How old is KIMI?". Me nicely said"3plus". Next thing ? Guess the typical question my friends.."Can tambah hha.." Me"Of course insya Allah". :P...Please..ask me a more intelligent Q coz I feel stupid by answering those. Maybe I am stupid afterall.

Now it's already 9 months since we left Sydney for good. Daddy cont. his work as LA (shortform used in my workplace...ha..ha..). Me back to work as "semi-pure" government servant (cause my workplace is semi-government) and Kimi growing up very fast as an active toddler, woody wood pecker, dr, so on and so forth.

We had been to JB (my hometown) in which kimi pronounced as "Jo-Oh" for our hari raya aidilfitri. Prior to that, we had been to Segamat (my hubby's hometown), Trengganu (KT) and Kuantan for family holiday. Ok la jugak tu to cover for this year kan. At least for a 3 year old kimi, he had cover a lot more than both of his parents when they were at his age.

This pic was taken masa eidul fitri kat rumah arwak tok I. But quite sedih la, my father and 2 uncles dah arwah. I'm sort of "kemaskini" kan kimi..ceh..padahal samping pasang siap shj.

Ni 'port' kimi and atuk Nak & Atuk Man dia almost everyday. Tu pun dia tak muak jugak, weekend mesti ajak bothg of us for brekkie. Boring la the foods..asyik2 mee hoon.

Ni trial n error of making muffin. Nasib baik ada 2 anak dara in my family - my youngest sis n my little cousin. Kimi pun menyibuk nak tolong. Almaklumlah, muffin is his fav.

This is the first n last lasagne that I cooked this year. Rasanya belum ada mood nak masak ni lagi. Wait till next year kalau ada permintaan. Si bujang ni punya fav. food jugak..pasta.

Si bujang ni mandi pagi mesti pakai air panas..apa ingat ni London ke? Sydney ke? Cubalah mandi air sejuk..dia tak nak u. Nasib baik dah boleh isi air sendiri. His newly acquired skill.

People said life is just like a wheel. Ada masa UPS ada masa down.
Mine is neither..using the wheel as analogy and the clock as the direction, my life is at 3 o'clock.
Maknanya tak Up or Down. I don't know what's the feeling. Rasa biasa2 je.
I have surrender of saying "have so much things to do". I think I need a break saying that.
I always have some objectives to do within a week/ a month.
BEing a researcher, is a researcher even without funding..

2010 and the blues..

Just to inform here that new year means nothing for me and I rarely follow the norm of starting new resolution(s) at the beginning of the year. As for me, it can be anytime and when the idea comes and the spirit is high, it can all started anytime. And what's next? Hard to tell. Continue working at old place? Of course. Arghh..it's gonna be tougher than doing PhD. Not because of the work though. There are mix feelings now. I can imagine how the traffic is going to be from KJ to Kepong and to avoid it, must wake up very early and will leave Kimi in someone else's hands besides his daddy. Can he survive? He will learn, will he? Kesiannya Kimi. Daddy also has to start fresh again. No more seaside and harbour trips, no more botanical gardens, no more reacheable neccessary places that can be visited just by walking (no need transport at all) like our butcher, clinic, supermarkets, mall, train station, park, etc. No more quality time. I don't know. It's just one of the January blues I suppose..he..he..Time to implement and integrate the new knowledges with the old ones at our own labs soon. In other words, time to give back to the country with new discoveries, insya Allah. Time to return to our families, the love ones. Time to have a new ambition, next leap. Time to change to a new blog perhaps.

By the way, lately daddy and myself have our very own small bussiness to do before we go home. It's furniture bussiness and soon will involve in a garage sale...duh..

Our beloved sofa lounge, wardrobes, favourite computer chairs and some other items were sold out like goreng pisang panas..eceh..

Don't be surprise ..it happens to almost everybody who come and study here. Most of the rental housing properties here are not fully furnished. And you will have to buy all the things you needed to survive 3 years life here and unlike in UK, you don't have to be busied to sell furnitures that you have. However, this is another experience again and will continue to that when settle back in our home in Malaysia. Need to sell some of our furnitures there too. Anyone interested?

All these photos were taken earlier this month when we visited Botanical Park (again...for 100th times..he..yes, I'm exageratting). The weather was almost 40 degrees and Kimi had so much fun playing on the field. But before that, let's learn Kimi's way of warming up before he kicked the ball.

1. Starting with head first..rotate your neck slowly for 360 degrees clockwise first, then anti-clockwise..

2. Stretch your legs out. Then, move your body to the left using your waist

3. Then, move to the right (you can eat a snack while doing this..kimi said)

3. Then, lower your bottom a bit and maintain in that position for 30 seconds.

4. Finally, strecth your leg like this ok.

Now, it's time to play football with daddy and mummy..yeah..

Kimi said he had to win so he took the ball away. The end.

Four funerals and one wedding

December has been a significant month for me since first and foremost is that I was born in this month. Next, there are a lot of significant events happened in my close knit family during this month both sad and happier ones.

One of the saddest things that happened was just yesterday (27th Dec.). One of my beloved uncles; Arwah Uncle Ali had passed away due to acute leukemia. May Allah bless his soul dan semoga rohnya berada di kalangan orang beriman dan beramal soleh. He had been sick since last year and the last time we saw him was when we attended my little sister Cik Ayu's wedding sometimes in June this year. He looked skinnier than ever i.e tinggal tulang lah kata orang melayu but he still managed to be so talkative; especially talking about the past. He got a kidney problem at that time that he must performed dialysis like three times per week. He left a wife (my mom's eldest sister - infact eldest among her six siblings) and a daughter. He's such a significant figure in our family since he was the one who would recites the do'a at our dining table before the guys in our family when for sembahyang raya (pray during eid seasons) every year. Infact, when he was still healthy, he would lead a group of peoples to perform umrah in Mekah almost every year but not for the past two years due to his illness. I can say people would regards him as an alim since he was also a bilal (if I'm not mistaken) at the mosque near his home and also my atuk's home when I was a little kid. Now, without him, who would be the leader who will recite a fluent do'a. My husband?

We also had lost another uncle (my mom's brother) and my father in law last year. Last year also I had been notified that my ex-boss passed away in this very month due to some sort of liver cancer. He was my first boss who took me in the current workplace for a contractual officer post and the one the promoted me to persue my PhD degree. All these people that used to be the "regulars" in my life now had gone. I feel like I'm getting use to loose someone that is closer to me and it feels just not right (I had lost my father for 11 years now and that was one of the lowest part in my life until I got married). Even it's sound cliche if we say that "yang hidup pasti meninggal dunia" or everyone will certainly die one day but it is timely to rethink about life after death and have we prepare ourselves towards it (which most of the time we tend to forget)..and say alhamdullillah (thankful) to what we have got plus live life smartly to the fullest for a good cause. Maybe after this, you never know who'll meet the "malaikat maut" or death , maybe me? you? him? another person closest to you. Let's not taking life for granted.

Innallillah and al fatihah to these family members of mine whom had passed away.
Also, happy wedding anniversary to Aunt Nah and uncle Man on 25th Dec.

(btw..this is the first time I write from uni..tengah bosan bangat..)

Rantings on No. 1

I've done my part which I think up to the max already. Now waiting for him to give feedback. Then, I'll do my manual scanning (the most final one ..ohw please give me the strenght - if I'm ultraman..my chest button has started making its alarming sound dah: power dah nak habis); checking if there is any distinctive errors i.e. spelling, formatting etc. Then, printing the mock one - then send back to him (again??? duh..I don't like this..will tell later why). Then, printing like 6 sets of the thesis, binding and send to the main campus.

The point is my "superior" will be going to conference and will be off from this uni this friday. And I have the feeling that he's preparing for his presentation..and still wish that he can use his superior power to correct my thesis by today. He's very particular on grammar..(tak mau kutuk..la..tapi macam enroll dalam postgrad in literature..ah..sorry prof..dia dah publish satu buku in poetry tau - yang related to science pun ada). If..and if (I wish this is not true) ..tak sempat gua nak hantar by this week..the consequences are I got to send it after he comes back from the conference..lagi seminggu lebih la kena tunggu and will delay that thesis to be sent to examiners.

Finally..my main wish is that I hope to get back my thesis from the examiners before I return to my country in Feb. (which if this happens...I'll be veryyyyyyy grateful makhluk on this earth. Insya Allah!

Maroubra beach is one of many beaches in Sydney.
We'd been there last weekend for the first time.
The beach is nice and what we liked about it is the children playground located not far from the beach.
However, the weather was not with us. During midday, the rain was pouring quite heavy for this part of the world.
But nothing can beats nice M'sian foods and accompany.

So sorry ya! Not been able to update since a month ago.
Still indulging myself with writing-up the thesis which seems to be endless (when am I going to finish huh ..). I'm at the discussions part now and part of the draft is with my supervisor (he supposed to send it back to me this week but he got sick..really..that's my luck but wish him to get better in quickest time).

At the same time I got to "entertain" peoples with my talks. The last talk would be on next Friday which will be given to the "politically" correct audiences. This time the organiser would give 100 quids for the best presenter. If wins, the money must be spent for doing research..hmm. Generally what I found in my studies were all the edible compounds from kunyit, green tea, chlorophyllin, hempedu bumi - all actives for killing ovarian cancer ok..the results have yet to be published..tunggu..lepas habis tulis thesis..nanti akan ku hantar ke mana-mana journal cancer.

By the way, what is happening with two important men in my life?
Diorang ok..tak sabar-sabar nak balik m'sia..it's timely to go home..yes.

Red Day

The whole world probably knew that Sydney got hit with red dusty storm last week. We had experienced just that. Just imagine waking up by a red glare from the windows..it felt so strange and of course one thing came in mind was that.."nak kiamat ke ni?" or "armageddon?". Luckily the sky gradually turn blue near midday onwards. Just imagine if we got stuck with this kind of environment. Surely it's sucks. A few of my FB friends (who didn't live here) told me that Sydney look beautiful in red. Yeah..try living here..outside the house..inhale the odour..how nice is it my friends..what a *&^(**& commment. But I did having fun in the house, didn't go to uni but doing the thesis write-up. I was not dare to brave that reddish particles of iron oxide.

As quoted from Nine news:

Here were some pictures being captured by my hubby just outside our unit. It was red and dusty but not that stormy. But..yea..what an experience. Berangan lah as if kita kat Mars.

And you know what..what a coincidence that I already had used the front cover of Sydney Bridge in red background (on top of this page) way before the dusty phenomenon came. Never I thought that it will become a reality. I think I will change the background in rainbow colour after this.

Ok that's it for a short update..got to continue writing my thesis chapter..uarghhh!

Island trip

Masa yang ditunggu-tunggu untuk ke Great Barrier Reef. atau shorform GBR. GBR ni sangatlah luas dan boleh dilihat dari outerspace. Salah satu pagi sebelum ke konferens, sempatlah jugak pergi ke sana. Kami pilih Green Island untuk melihat GBR sebab banyak kemudahan untuk orang yang ada famili seperti kami.

Semasa bertolak dengan feri bigcat dari Cairns ke Green Island mengambil masa dalam setengah jam lebih.

Feri dari kompeni-kompeni yang berlainan. Kami pilih Bigcat sebab mereka dah establish paling lama.

Dalam feri..ada je budak nak sakat kimi..ni Jacob.

Kimi melihat alam sekitar..rasa aman sebelah Cairns ni..tak macam Sydney. Tapi makanan halal amatlah susah u.

Ni je gambar yang sempat diambil dari jeti kat Green Island..mana ikannya? Kalau kat Redang dah nampak dah..(kes tak sabar).

Kuranda

Dah sampai dah di Kuranda

Gambar di bawah semasa perjalana pulang dari pekan Kuranda..terjumpa kerusi unik ini
dibuat daripada landasan keretapi..oh ye..kimi tengah syok tidur.

Kuranda sebuah pekan kecil..pernah jadi pekan hippies di zaman 70an dulu. Sekarang banyak kedai-kedai ..antaranya kedai mejual batu permata dan opal. Sempat membeli sengenggan dua bangles batu-batan di bawah ini untuk orang yang terdekat.

Kami menaiki shuttle bas semasa ke pekan Kuranda sebab malas nak naik bukit..bulan puasa ma..save energy sikit. Budak perempuan depan kimi asyik agah dia sahaja. Kimi pulak asyik ketawa terbahak-bahak. Adoi hai..sampai tak dengar apa yang diceritakan oleh driver pasal pekan Kuranda.

Ini stesyen keretapi Kuranda..sangat unik. Mereka appreciate betul tropical rain forests sampai sarat betul stesyennya dengan pokok-pokok tropika.

Jalan-jalan ke Cairns-Part 1

Sorry for not being able to update..even the so called report from my Japan-trip need to be postponed here or..check out the pics in my fb since I had uploaded some of the pics there. So let us skip for another trip to Cairns from 22-28 August. Cairns, Queensland is a popular site known for its Great Barrier Reef (my wish came true!).

Ok..kali ni kita berbahasa malaya sikit. Kita ke Cairns sebab kena menghadiri konferens mengenai tumbuhan ubatan atau medicinal chemistry (sounds very familiar with my old division in frim). Temanya agak "gu" sikit la dengan bidang ku tak seperti conferens di Jepun yang temanya pasal inorganic chemistry atau dalam bahasa mudah ialah segala penyelidikan mengenai logam yang digunakan dalam pembikinan ubatan. Walaubagaimanapun, sedikit sebanyak relevan juga dengan thesis ku sebab penyelidikan ku ialah menggabungkan komponen dari tumbuhan dan juga dari logam dengan objektif untuk mengurangkan masalah kerintangan ubat (drug resistance) yang menyebabkan pesakit kanser tak boleh baik bila amik ubatan tersebut disebabkan masalah ini. All in all, memang berpuas hati dengan pengisian konferens tersebut yang jauh berbeza dengan konferens-konferens yang dihadiri semasa di malaysia dulu. Banyak "first-hand" informations mengenai teknologi terkini dari pelbagai bidang dalam konferens-konferens di luar negara dan mereka yang memberi ceramah atau "oral" ini adalah pelopor dalam bidang masing-masing. Infact tak semua yang "expert" itu dapat peluang untuk memberikan ceramah sebab expertises terlampau ramai. Ingat lagi semasa di Jepun, pembentang poster disebelah saya adalah antara saintis terkenal dalam penyelidikan drug resistance ini dan beliau tidak dapat slot sebagai penceramah tetapi sangat rendah diri orangnya. Senang berkominikasi dengannya. Rasanya cukup pasal konferens sana sini..rasa rugi pulak tak gunakan peluang 2 tahun lepas pergi sebanyak konferens mungkin. Kampus tempatku belajar ada peruntukan untuk pelajar PhD untuk setiap tahun boleh pergi satu konferens dalam negera dan satu konferens luar negara. Tahun ni amat bertuah dan senang perjalanan sebab uni bayar kesemuanya in advance termasuklah tambang teksi..siap pakai limousine lagi. Kerani uni pun sangat baik (dan dia yahudi) dan memberikan kerjasama. Saya akan miss segala support yang mereka berikan bila balik m'sia nanti.

Moshi moshi!

Moshi..moshi.. (Good morning!).

I just recovered from jet lag. Been to Japan for a week or so attending ICBIC14 conference. All expenses were provided by Sydney Uni. It's been ages taking more than 10 hrs flight trips. Eventhough we had been exposed quite a lot of Japanese cuisine and shopping mall in Malaysia but the "hands-on" and "be there" experiences were quite undescribable with any kind of words. The trip was worth it. The conference culture was amazing and met up scientists all around the world in one spot was a blast. The japanese culture, lifestyle, transport system can't beat others..too discipline in nature, all the cutie thingy, the dishes are all presentatable, and they are a helpful lot..etc..etc. Will upload loads of photo later. Managed to visit other places like Kyoto and Tokyo while we had free time. Finally, managed to shed a few kilos of body weight. Yeay.

Yes, how times fly..

Today is 18/7 and Kimi just begins his 22nd months of life on this planet.

From a tiny little baby (he was just 2.66 kg when he was born)..he's now almost half of the height of his daddy.

Based on some books on toddlers..this is the age of temper tantrum..and yes..Kimi does has his "moments" and we got to play around with it..sabar dan sabar je lah..

But..he's a cheeky cute boy too. He likes to treat daddy like his bestfriend. He wakes up earlier than us and would normally sit on daddy's tummy first. If daddy still lie down, he would try to open his daddy's eyelid..hu..hu..

He also likes to kiss us impromptuly .. especially when the moment is least expected.and when we tried to get mad at him, he would came straight to us crying and hug us especially to his mummy.

He is such a clinger..never been away from at least any one of us for more than one day. That's explains sometimes why he would reject a new visitor(s). But he's extremely friendly with strangers when we go out to the city by train..he would try to communicate with them. What a paradox..

But the most important thing..we love him so much and we pray that he is growing up as normal as can be and excel in his life and be a happy kid.

Nothing Special but Us..

Dah masuk mid winter pun di Oz ni. This is our last winter for sure. Pas ni balik dan rasa lah summer sepanjang tahun..hu..hu..siap sedia tau Kimi.

Takde apa yang menarik pun lately. Asyik mengadap pc, laptop dan rakan2 sewaktu..sekejap-kejap tulis manuskrip nak hantar ke jurnal antarabangsa (ceh..ni cuba nak taip BM ala-ala skima), pastu kejap-kejap pi google map Jepang, pastu cari jurnal yang berkaitan untuk tulis thesis, lepas tu tulis thesis sikit-sikit..camtu lah kerja ku sekarang. Memang boring..tapi I suka lah this moment..setelah berhempas pulas (ceh..ceh..) main-main dengan gadget-gadget saintifik untuk mendapatkan keputusan dari ujikaji-ujikaji yang menguji minda dan kesabaran..boleh lah maintain duduk setempat...harap-harap lemak degil kat punggung taklah bertambah degil.

So, kesian kan kat Kimi selalunya the whole week tak pergi mana-mana..lagipun weekend pulak kadang-kadang hujan like last weekend. Maybe this coming weekend bolehla jejalan lagi sebelum mummynye nak mengembara jauh selama 10 hari..ciannya Kimi and daddynya. Selamat Pergi & Pulang

Yes, we were in M'sia for the past two weeks, first time with Air Asia on overseas trip. Penat wo..transit kat Gold Coast. Selingan: seat dia keras berdengkung..fix seat u..tak boleh ubah2. nama pun tambang murah kan. Rasa jetstar lagi best.

It was unplanned but a wish..a wish to see our younger sister; Ayu Khadijah to tie the knot on the 5-7th June. It's almost impossible at first fly back at that time since I was scheduled for presenting my research output in the Discipline's seminar and I thought of not being able to complete my final experiments, hence, it's probably pretty tough to get the permission from my supervisor to take a few weeks off. But, a wish was granted. A few weeks before the unplanned trip, the seminar's organiser had slot my presentation in the second semester. A week before we flew, I managed to complete my experiments and asked my hubby if he can searched any last minute ticket. My hubby managed to book quite a cheap flight tickets with Air Asia-X less than a week before we flew back home.

We spent a week or so in JB. Alhamdullillah, the wedding went very well, the bride and groom were cun..the weather..was warmer and humid. Nikah was done on Friday morning and on the same night we attended the groom's reception, followed by the bride's reception on Sunday. Wish that someone was not too serious but what to do coz that was beyond my control..it was expected. Another good thing was Kimi enjoyed meeting his cousins. Unfortunately most of the family photos were with my cousins.

Bila dah lama sikit duduk di perantauan, one thing for sure is that missing the Malaysian foods back at home especially yang susah nak dibeli dan didapati di sini.

So, one fine day..tiba-tiba tekak ni gatal lah pulak nak makan laksa johor u..

Alamak..camne tu..macam kompleks je nak masak. Paling last masak laksa johor rasanya masa undergrad days kat UK dalam 10 tahun lepas kot..macam de javu lah pulak kan..dok oversea je..nak kena masak laksa johor. Ye lah..kalau tak masak sendiri nak beli kat mana. Finally, menjadi lah jugak..satu periuk tinggi u..dalam 5 litre kot sebab periuk tu tulis max. volume 7.8 L..I masak dalam 3/4 of the periuk. Isy..isy..tahan 3 hari.

Resepinya adalah..

Laksa Johor dejavu Hanan's Style - resepi diperantauan

Bahan-Bahan:

A.Kuah

Bahan-bahan yang perlu diblend untuk menumis:
Bawang merah/besar - 4 biji
Bawang putih - 5 biji
Halia - 2 cm squares

Serai - 1-2 batang (I guna sebatang je..sebab itu je yg ada dlm fridge)

Lengkuas - 2-3 cm squares

Rempah kari - 2 bungkus kecil
Serbuk cili - 2 senduk (kalau cili kering lagi best-rendam dulu sebelum blend)

Kerisik* - 3-4 sudu besar

Santan - 2 tin (beli yang Coconut Cream bukan Coconut Milk..tapi kat M'sia belilah yg fresh)

Jus Asam jawa - 1 senduk (kalau boleh guna asam keping)

Ikan tuna - 500-600 gm yang fresh bukan dalam tin (kalau di M'sia, ikan parang yg. terbaik..sini tak ada. Ikan tuna I beli yang telah dipotong sekeping..besar betul)

Udang basah - 100-200 gm

Udang kering - segenggam

B. Bahan tabur (betul ke term ni..;):

Timun

Lobak masin/ caipo

Bawang besar

Daun selasih

Daun kesum (sini tak dak semenjak kedai vietnam tu tutup..dah tak de source dah)

Sambal belacan

Limau kasturi (sini mana ada..so I pakai lime atau limau nipis je)

-semua daun-daun tersebut perlulah dipotong halus-halus..lagi halus lagi berseni ok

C. Spaghetti

jangan lupa..mee lain is a big "no". Kalau pandai chap buat bentuk no. 8..anda memang orang johor sejati..kat overseas ni..hentam je la..sendiri mau makan.

Cara memasak:

A. Rebus ikan, udang basah (buang kulit) dan udang kering. Setelah masak toskan air (simpan air rebusan ini) buang tulang ikan dan blend ikan, udang2 semua dengan air rebusan

B. Rebus spaghetti dan buat chap kalau rajin atau expert

C. Masak kuah:

1. Masukkan santan 4-5 sudu besar ke dalam periuk dan kacau hingga pecah minyak dalam 5 minit. Oleh kerana terpaksa guna santan tin..minyak tak pecah lah pulak..so, tambah minyak masak sedikit. Apabila dah panas, masukkan bahan-bahan yang telah diblend iaitu bawang merah, bawang putih halia, serai, lengkuas.

2. Setelah agak garing (naik baunya), masukkan rempah kari dan cili serbuk (make sure rempah kari dan cili ini dipeskan dulu..bubuh air sikit..kalau tak cepat hangit) dan tumis sehingga garing.

3. Masukkan santan, ikan dan udang yang telah diblend dengan air rebusan. Masukkan air asam jawa dan garam secukup rasa.

4. Kacau sekali sekala. Bila dah menggelegak..dah masak lah tu dan boleh lah dihidang dan makan

P/S: Bila dah masak..macam senang lah pulak..resepi ni macam dah ada dalam kepala konon-konon. Cuma terpaksa confirm dgn Aunt. Nah wajib ke letak serai lengkuas..he..heh..memang wajib. Nasib baik le ada simpanan sikit itupun lengkuas dah macam ala ala expired je.

P/S2: Kalau le menulis resepi ni boleh convert jadi thesis write-up..dah siap dah 3 mukasurat thesis ku..tapi tak pelah..manalah tau nak masak lagi. Ada lah documentation dah buat on laksa johor ni.

*P/S3: Oh..kerisik tu..sini memang ke tak de. So, what I did was..I beli serbuk kelapa yang orang kat sini selalu buat topping untuk kek. I sanggarkan serbuk kelapa ni dalam 1-2 senduk atas kuali sampai bertukar warna brown, lepas tu I blend guna blender yang kontot tak yah guna air tu. Jadilah.

One thing that we fancy about Sydney is its beaches. Having been a loyal viewers of drama series Home and Away since undergrad days in UK and now doing postgrad in Sydney, it's unforgivable if we skip the trip to Palm Beach or famously known as Summer Bay in the drama while we are still here. Infact the weather was on our side while we were there. Glad that Kimi had so much fun. Wish if the casts were doing the shooting but it's weekend. If not we could ask of being one of the extras..heh..heh..

Finally we'd been to Royal Easter Show

Well, Royal Easter Show is an annual event in Sydney which takes place at Olympic Park, Sydney almost 2 weeks in April. Due to the place is not that far from where we live, we just kept our eyes shut for the past years for not going there. But, dunno why we feel the urge to go and wanting to experience what that is. We took a train from Auburn to Lidcombe (just one stop) and changed to another train to Olympic Park, as that was the easiest mode of transport to that event. Guess how long we spent our time there? 6 hours walking and walking..since there were a lot of booths and shows too see. I can say that it's not only celebrating easter by itself but rather it is a combination of a spectacular algricultural shows and theme parks and other commercial stuffs like from woolworths and sales on perfumes, women clothings, chocolates, all sorts of stuffs. We never seen anything than bigger fat cows rows by rows and well groomed! And we got to buy some cheap discounted ori Crocs sandals too. I also intrigued by the fact that how this kind of event appreciated cottage-like industries like there were many tournaments/ competitions on such as who make the best tea cakes, jams, chutney, painting, drawing, sheep's wool, etc..etc..and all were displayed. What a great idea..like my hubby said it would be nice in our country to have this kind of competitions like who make the best kind of nasi lemak, kuih karipap etc, etc..it must be a whole lot of fun.
Well, anough said, let's look some pics that we managed to snap..

All in all we had a nice trip. So much to see..but we managed to "tahan" ourselves not too spend that much and yes we did! Bile sampai rumah..masing2 flat.

The long Easter holiday is about to end and tommorrow I will join the "commuters club" in Sydney to go to "work". My pee-ache-D is considered as my work as for now and that's why my co. where I work with literally still pay me the salary back at home. Argh..the dreadful feeling of going to the lab...not that I don't like my "job" but I think I'm getting tired of commuting to that hospital. If I plan my trip well, I can arrive there in half an hour time and if not it can take me 1 hr. It's not that far if I have a car but that's a different story. It's like from Kelana Jaya to Ikea in Damansara. Coincidently there is IKEA nearby the hospital where I work...ha..ha.. Can't wait to finish this task and totally make myself available at the uni and concentrate on writing and only writing. Now, I couldn't sleep thinking about the possible stats. analysis for my current data. Have u ever heard about Kruskal-Wallis? duh..

By the way, we did go somewhere during the weekend because of nak bawak Kimi jalan2.

Well, where did we go during last weekend? hmm..tempat biasa kami la..we got to cancelled our 2 hrs trip to the southern part of Sydney called Kiama (to see the blowhole near its beach) due to the "monsoon" season i.e. the weather forcast predicted that the area would received some rains. NSW mana ada monsoon da...but yea..it's raining almost everyday during the holidays. What we cleverly did was taking a cruise from Parammatta to Circular Quay (where the Opera House is) and gosh I think non of us enjoying the trip cause the ferry was quite full. We didn't managed to grab the seat by the window nor we could sat at the deck cause it was just a catamaran. Being a claustrophobia plus watching Kimi's locomotions enough to make us drowsy. After 50 minutes or so in the ferry , we boarded off at Circular Quay and walking passing by the Opera house to Botanical Garden (it's a hugh park located behind Opera house and the scenery is always awesome..ini la tempat lempak kitorang kalau tak tau nak pi mana) to have our picnic. Kimi as usual chasing all the birds he could spotted on the ground. Poor daddy playing marathon with Kimi. To celebrate "our achievement" on the odds that we had done, we had our first Guylian chocolate shake at Guylian's boutique chocolate restaurant. Yummy at first but later on at home mummy got sick and vommitted. Daddy then got heart burn. Not just because of this cruise effect but somehow..this weekend was not that umph..la..Btw, a day before we took the cruise, mummy had made serawa durian..was it too gaseous? gee...no more durian ma.

Last week, after the visit to the musuem we had our lunch in Hyde Park, Sydney.

Last week daddy had suggested us to go to Australian Museum in Sydney to see the dinasour showcase. Mummy had bluntly agreed with that "apa-apalah" attitude while her mind was mostly thinking about her "apa-apalah" experiments yang asyik kena repeat. *penings*.

I haven't being so into dinasour thingy after the Jurassic Park films era ended like 10 years ago? After much asking (or grumbled) from daddy like "haven't we'd been there before and we already saw it" and the answer was that this time it's the special showcase, so, we was here yesterday (since the clock showed 12.03 am now and I'm still not sleeping dunno why and exchanging my slot of writing-up-thesis to writing-up-blog..procrastinating over and over huh..well ..at least I can exchange some info eh).

As usual, we went there by train since there would not be much hassle to go into the city with the public transport. We exited at St. James station (unfortunately the station is not that user friendly since it does not provide elevator and lane for baby tram and poor daddy got to carry kimi inside his "car" by the stairs). This was the first landmark that we saw not far from the station and beyond Hyde Park and so we thought that this building is the museum.
Tapi dalam hati nih..eeei lain macam jek rupa bentuk nya..la bila pi dekat rupanya church!..I think this is the main church kat Sydney kot yang selalu masuk local newspaper tunjuk gambar newlyweds. Sempat snap few photos dan gambar terpilih adalah:

The musuem had several levels with its own theme. Since we already went to this museum before, we skipped the other showcases and went straight to level 2 where the dinasour showcase took place. There was this one level showcasing various types of gemstones like diamond, opal and all but we skipped that one too.

Nak ikutkan memang banyak sangat displays & info pasal dinasour. Yang skeleton besar semua tu diorang casts lah. Yang betul tu fossils dan serpihan tulang dan gigi..taklah larat nak upload kat sini. Tapi peminat dinasour bolehla check info kat australian museum's website or just googling the informations about dinasours kat wikipedia..so much info and a few of them are still being challenged scientifically till today.

I googled a few stuffs just to find more info. since we couldn't really concentrate reading on all of the info. displayed. I found few interesting facts like dinasour had occupied this earth about 160 millions years ago and as most of the people already knew that most of the species were wiped out due to the meteor-hits. The classifications of dinasours species are complex. Almost none of the dinasours that lived in water survived after the meteor hits. Of course the one that survived evolutionised. Birds are "thought" or at least scientifically proven to be originated from dinasours. I also checked if Malaysia has its own paleontology..of course we have, stupid me...(time to do something with our media must highlight on the noble profession like this eh and to attract more younger generations to be in this kind of professions, afterall we have one of the oldest rainforests in the world, there must be alot of new discoveries yet to be made). Dinasour's fossils were found in scattered part of the world so they lived everywhere including Antartica. Have we found our fossils yet specifically belonged to dinaosours? I have yet to find any info. about it but I was astonished to find that it was reported last month that our scientists had found human stoned tools somewhere in Lenggong, Perak aged 1.83 million years old indicating that one of the earliest human being on earth either had been to Malaysia or lived there. They have yet to find the human bones but what if the human never lived there and just passing by. The info was obtained from here. Enough of these thoughts.

After ending up watching the dinasours thingy, we let Kimi played in the kid-zone in the musuem itself. The place had colouring section, a few cubicles with a lot of interactive toys and soft toys of aussie's wildlifes, many insects embedded in glass-cubes (Kimi's fav.), human skeleton, small pantry, story book section, etc. The museum also organises some kid sessions in this zone during the weekdays. Nice eh...for Kimi.

Still Got the Blues

Oh my..we didn't go "anywhere" this weekend, I mean outside from our town. Kimi's mummy not in the mood to go anywhere since a bit emotionally involve with the last part of the pee-hech-dee project and it is like taking a roller coaster ride. I feel physically and mentally drain. Thanks to my hubby..who help me a lot in taking care of me and kimi.

The project 'menguji kesabaran tahap maksima 9 skala richter'. It takes at least 5 days to visualise the data or output and several days for analysis or in my case several months. I had tried this since last year but there were many hiccups like late arrival of chemicals (kat sini pun ada masalah birokrasi), unknown shelf life of the chemicals and finally found through a hard way that most of the chemicals already expired plus juggling two big experiments at two different labs (at different locations and I only rely on public transport to commute to two places on certain days). Well, my project can be classified into three sections and I'm now in the last section. Luckily I managed to end the second section of the experiments early this year so I just have to concentrate on this last part but often my Thursdays are hijacked by a department and group meetings.

But last week I got a really good protein separations under my two dimensional gel profile. I couldn't show it here, most probably there is a new discovery in it? Who knows. It's like serendipity kind of thing. The truth it, I thought that the experiment won't work at all since I used to apply constant temperature using a water bath circulating system at a certain degree for the first dimension run (using a specific equipment). It took 48 hrs to complete, I ran them on Wed. at my co-supervisor's crony lab in the hospital, and left it to ran itself on Thursday, come Friday I wanted to switched the machine off and I was dumbfounded that water was totally leaking. The enviromental temperature must be fluctuate a bit but not exceeding the temperature that I already sat up. I just have to repeat another experiments that will include the same sample to be able to do the stats analysis. Gee..but I had to find out what's the temperature on that particular Thursday to run for this week experiment. Wish me luck! I need two weeks to run all these samples (must be optimistic) before I can concentrate doing the analysis with the latest software..ohw please..this is like more than 4th repeat per sample and I got 10 of them (looks not much but hmm will explain later about what's my project is all about in later post). Thank God my supervisor's didn't complain about my spending on chemicals..who's fault dumping me at his crony or subordinate lab (I'm the only one working in this field there, the rest are dealing with pathology servicing labs).

It's also one of the machine that can be used to muscle building since it's heavy when filled with solution. Look like an aquarium eh..berat pun macam aquarium.

Fun Day on Sunday

Somehwhere around Jan. this year onwards, the pulic transports fees for a family on Sunday only just costs AUD2.50 per person and with that single ticket per person, the ticket holder can takes any mode of govmnt. public transports (bus, ferry, train) on limitless trips anywhere in Sydney. So, we'd bought that cheap ticket and off we went to Manly on previous Sunday by a ferry. Unlike the normal ferry that we used to take from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour or vice versa, this ferry to Manly has three levels. We took the ferry from circular Quay around 11 am and it just took us half an hour to arrive to Manly. Manly is a northern suburb in Sydney which is famous of its beaches too. Before we departed, we saw this cruise ship parked at the specific wharf meant for a big cruise ship.

Different wharfs for different destinations. That big white ship is a cruise ship. Majestic, isn't it?

On the way, we saw another one. Unfortunately this one had to park in the middle of the sea since not enough space at the wharf.

Finally, we reached Manly!

12 noon already..lunch time..nasi goreng and sausage rolls. Kimi had his jemput2 pisang.

Many shops inside the wharf itself. We boarded the ferry at 4pm.

5 things I like and I don't like about..

Sydney or Australia in general..just my point of view: no offense please.

No one tag me on this topic but I just feel like it. Sooner or later we'll leave this place for good, I just thinking about what I would miss if I'm not here one day. Being a sentimentalist today huh. The truth is, I lost track of what I should be doing since I got to sacrifice a whole week last week for not being able to conduct my final project on proteomics (what's that huh..my hubby said protein+comic LOL...), whatever. Last week I got to prepare a presentation to be given to my fellow colleagues and supervisor on proteomics since none of them are doing this for this time being. I also took the oppurtunity to do some cell collections for my very end project-the protein ID (rather than sitting in front of the pc downloading the journals and making more dead cells at my thigh..oh no). I'm not the type of person who like to sit still and that's why i'm in this line-a researcher. I used to have an my own office back at home..but I rarely spend my time in there unless I felt damn tired.

I thought of listing 10 but that's too much huh..I wanna sleep early today ma..

The good things first:
5 things I like about Sydney:
1) Their public transport. ? yea..for some of the locals, they thought that their public transports are crap. But gee..what I like is that the time table of each public transports can be easily accessible from the website and 98% of the transports are on time. Of course for a rarely visited place like eg. Concord Hospital (he..he..who knows if PM Rudd read this, please take note ok), the bus comes every half an hour, but it is still reliable. Of course in the future, we hope that they won't descriminate such places especially hospital meh..moreover, so many old people come to visit that place.

2) Their internet system. Gee..very fast and I like their mapping system. Say if I wanna go to a place that I had not been there before, I just can google the add. straightaway without going into google earth and get the exact picture of that place or that building, or street. It's so helpful especially, if we don't have any idea how's the place look like and if we go to that place by our own. The internet banking here is ok too, I can't comment much on this but we also have internet banking in M'sia but I never tried that one, so no substance to compare.

3) Their supermarket esp. woolworths. Eventhough they produce their homebrand products, but the quality is about the same as the branded one. I had tried a soy sauce of Tesco in M'sia, gee..that taste is really awful and the Giant's diapers that I saw in KL..that's so way out of civilisation. Well, I should be grateful, but those giant companies in M'sia should do something about their homebrand's products. And why on earth we normally get ugly red onions and detached garlic in our country. We deserves more that that. Consumers must act!

4) The air. It's fresh except in CBD of course. But, never experience 'jerebu' thus far.

5) The meat products. Of course we buy the halal one. All are fresh and comes with different names according to tha way it is cut and what kind of meal it can be used for such as osso bucco, curry beaf, backstraps, t-bone steak, lamb cutlets so on and so forth.

5 things I don't like about Sydney:
1) Their clothings and shoes. Gee..most of the products like clothings, shoes, plastic wares, etc are made in China and sometimes are rediculously expensive. Take for an example a decent cotton blouse with not much choice in colour and design can cause about AUD30 but it's ugly okey. The average shoes are not in good quality too. Even Bata shoes are better.

2) Their weekend's TV series. Oh..gees..if u're sports person, this is definitely ur place. Mostly sports in all channel during the weekend.

3) Expensive cooked food. A simple meal like one set of english brekkie consists of egg, bacon and toast (of course I never buy this but always came across it in the menu) can costs around AUD8. Gee..too much eh..I can buy a cut of salmon fish with that price or a chicken. It's no fun too eat outside. Moreover no excessive halal food.

4) The fluctuating weather. The "standard deviations" of the temperature measured in degrees is sometimes about 100%. You can get the weather of 40 degrees today but 20 degrees tommorow. The locals said that the weather never changed drastically as that yearsss before. So? climate change has takes its toll huh. Be ready for a challenging climate. Due to the fluctuating weather, we got to standby all season's clothings in our wardrobe.

5) The immigration/custom. I know 'la, they got to do, what they got to do. But it just piss us off each time we want to go into the country. Don't dare to bring any foods without declaring okey. But the good things is there are many asian's groceries shops here.

Well, that's for now..my 2 cents of opinions. mmm..I like studying at Sydney University too..they provide grants to present paper overseas and grant to buy laptop or books, etc. he..he..waiting the approval to go to Japan soon..

Gold Coast here we come..

We had a short vacation of 4 days and 3 nights last week in Gold Coast(GC). The flight tickets were bought since last year and due to unduly circumstances we had postponed the trip. It's also fair to us especially Kimi's mummy because she had not taken a so called 'smooth' christmas and end year holiday to complete a few write-ups etc.

We arrived at GC Coolangata airport after 1h departed from Sydney and took a cab to the Shore hotel apartment at Surfers Paradise. Since we arrived on Sunday afternoon, nobody from the hotel came to greet us (it's a public holiday) but they left a good system to let us took our room keys. We went up to our room with their unique lift..why I said it's unique since we had to use our key to press the button to our level. Ohw..it was not the card-key..it's a real key, the same as the door key. The apartment was nice since we could see the beach from our windows. If I was not mistaken the beach stretches about 72 km long.

On the day of arrival, we did a quick shopping for our groceries at nearby Coles supermarket and brought Kimi to the beach. He loved it so much and we were so tired of chasing him as not to let him to be far away in the water, the wave looked quite strong.

On the second day, we went to the Sea World. It took us about 10 minutes by cab that costs us quite cheap in price around AUD10. We had posted some photos in the slide show below. Enjoice. Oh yea..we bumped into Huey..the celebrity chef of "Never trust a skinny cook". He was there to shoot his current cooking show. The place is not that huge though and there are timings to see the shows but during our visit, the show started a bit late, in fact we missed the dolphin show. We managed to catch up with sesame street and the water skiing shows.

On the third day, we booked a shuttle bus to ferry us to the Movie World/ Warner Bros. Since it's Warner Bros sponsored theme park..you just expected theirs only productions there. So, don't expect more than that i.e. don't expect a place like Disneyland. There is a place for toddler but most of the rides only allowed kids with more than 95cm tall and Kimi is still shorter than that. We managed to take him only on a few rides like a road runner train ride, merry-go-round and tweety cage ride. The last ride lasted for a while and daddy didn't tagged along. Poor Kimi, he looked a bit scared probably gayat or something..err come from daddy's gene maybe. All in all we just spent about 4 hours in both theme parks. Maybe if younger siblings were there, they could spent till the theme park closed. But for us, 4 hrs were just a nice time to spend plus the weather was scorchingly hot during those days. Ohw..what we experienced in both theme parks..most of the booths in the parks started a bit late not 10 am sharp eventhough we were allowed in at 10 am. Most of the evenings after visiting the theme park, we spent our time either at Cavill avenue(shopping and finding halal food) or the beach. Cavill avenue is sort of the high end place with many designer boutiques and all. We just felt the place more or less like Bukit Bintang area in KL. All in all the trip was nice, an escapade for a busy city like Sydney and we were fortunate that the school holiday seasons had ended when we were there and the places were not that crowded.

That's all for this time trip. Kimi's mummy got to get back with her lab works and all and daddy with his nursery. Still smell the fresh seabreeze and the sound of waves.

Cruising in Sydney ferry from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay one Sunday afternoon in Jan. the 18th. Very hot sunny day. The quay was full of crowds with locals and tourists. Kimi was enjoying the sea breeze.

This picture was taken in Dec. the 28th. at the Parramata Westfield during our scouting for the leftovers sales days after the boxingsales. Kimi feeling anxious seating on the wiggle airplane.

This picture was taken during last year on christmas day at Olympic park, Sydney. Our small society of M'sians were having the picnic-morning coffee session. Kimi had his freedom running all over the place.

One fine day in early Jan. this year. Kimi started to show his temper. He didn't want to go home but wanted to continue playing at Auburn Central Park.

This pic. was taken last year in November. It's a ONE-STOP centre for my everyday total make over (duh..) i.e. my make-up table plus my study table. Btw, my bangle collections now increasing due to the last boxing sale. Almost all from DIVA. Just notice, there is a purse for my bussiness card too..gee..wonder why it is there..I haven't distribute any of them fo more than 2 years.

7 days passed new Year. Been busy planning experiments, reading and writing for thesis chapter 1 and a journal draft since the long year end holiday. Although not completely done, my supervisor had been chasing for them and I already sent them on the 5th Jan. The challenge is to do the writing and reading at night since day time was occupied with Kimi like playing ball and watching wiggle and basking on the couch. Too hot to go wandering outside.

Finally, it will be our last year here, insya Allah. Slowly, this is the wake up call to tune in into TWO things in mind:

1) no hanky panky but focusing on writing and repeating experiments that turned wacko, then submitting them by ? month (secret..while writing this i feel an alien in my stomach)

2) gearing our mind to face the real life at home: family and work ( the second is tougher in the sense of going fro 8am-5 or 6pm job..a chaotic routine)

Not much story to tell, will reduce travelling and shopping. Btw, next month we'll going to GC..we'd booked the flight ticket for ages. Hopefully kimi can be "tamed".

What We Did Last Weekend

Last weekend all of us with Azah n Basid went to Powerhouse Museum to see the Starwars. The show will end on April next year. So, there are plenty of time left for the Starwars fan to visit the displays. Daddy was really excited to watch his fav. characters. We managed to mingle around with some of them like R2D2 and Bounty Hunter but sadly there are no walking Darth Vader or Jedi..hmm. The pictures on this trip is shown in the next slides.

After seeing Starwars, we went for a picnic at Centennial Park near Randwick, Sydney. The weather was excellent.

Kimi had fun running around in the park. It is really a HUGE park.

Then, we dropped by at the Quadrangle, University of Sydney before returning home. This place put a smiley faces to all the graduates since the graduation or they call it "presentation" ceremony is held here several times per year. Again, Kimi wandering around at the lawn in the middle of Quadrangle, the youngest grad. of Univ. of Sydney..he..he..Thanks to Azah n Basid for accompanying us to those trips in their new brand car.

We'd been to Watson Bay last two weekend. It's located at the eastern north part of Sydney. The trip was awesome. We departed from Circular Quay (where the Opera house is located) in the morning by ferry and arrived at the bay about 20 minutes later. The ferry stops at three other bays (Double Bay and Rose Bay..the other one was forgotten..pl. check out sydney ferry map in google) before arrived at Watson Bay.

Unplanned Trip and Sad News

I knew something was not really right a few weeks ago eversince the news of abah (my father in law) being admitted back to IJN(National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, M'sia). Each time I got back home from uni, kept asking my hubby what's the condition of Abah. Abah already had two of his scheduled bypass in his heart (total sould be triple) just before eidulfitri and he was released few weeks after.

Not for long, he was admitted again. It was told that the area near his leg where the veins were taken for replacing the one in his heart, was not recovered after the operation. His health condition was not too well. On thursday of 13th Nov my hubby's brother Affin calling him to tell about abah worst condition. All of us were preparing for the worst but still have high hope that Abah would survive.

Hope the situation will revive just like in April, where Abah had been first time diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and first time being admitted to IJN and Abah's heart condition was stabilised a week after but he must had regular check-up and at one point the doctors decided to do two stages of bypass operations. Inlaws told us to hold on first due to this aspiration.

On 14th Nov., Abah is in coma still and we had no choice but to take the earliest flight. Sadly, last minute flight booking was always a challenge to get one. Finally we got our bookings done and flew on 16thNov. Sunday. Bad news was that we were stranded for 4hrs due to technical problem of the airplane, finally departed from Sydney around 7 pm and reached KL around 1 am in the morning.

Upon arrival, bad news struck, abah already passed away during maghrib (dawn) and his body already being transported to Johor Bahru for burial. We flew a few hours later to JB to meet hubby's family. Everybody were sad but remain calm. Lots of people came to give their prayings and tahlil to Abah. Hubby managed to involve in the burial of Abah. Feel sorry for hubby of his loss and not able to be at Abah's last breath. This was the fate that we couldn't control, all came from Allah must have some purposes and hikmah. Everyone of us will meet Him one day wether we prepare or not. Alfatihah to Abah, may his soul rests in peace and among the alims.

Abah requested me to take his picture on this very chair on our August trip for Affin's wedding. Never in our mind thought that was our last encounter..

Kimi is now passed his 13th months. He knows how to say deee (for daddy), ma..(for mummy), bird, ba..ba..(for sheep), mmmmmuu(for cow) or other mixed words which is neither english, malay or arabic..he..he.

He has also develops a growth interest in birds since we brought him to the nearby park. So, each time we passed the street next to the park, he would murmured the word "bird..bird..bird"..yes, very clearly. Now, daddy got to bring him to the park regularly to meet his best friends..the birds of all sorts.

Wonder what was the bird trying to negotiate with kimi.

Today we went to Azah n Basid's place in Lidcombe for their open house. Hopefully this will be the last raya here and we'll back for good next year when our studies completed. We had chicken rendang, mee hoon and mee bandung. We brought a bread n butter puding.

This was the first open house we attended for hari raya season which took place at Dr Azian or kak Yan and bro. Redzwan place in Berala, Sydney. Kimi was feeling excited and always on the move while his parent busy packing some stuffs to bring along including our banana muffins. Even to take the photo with Kimi below before departing to kak Yan place need a lot of courage and stamina to do so. We didn't know how on earth he got all those energy.

Hari ini Labour Day di Sydney. Mummy kenalah cuti..pergi uni pun tak guna..tak ada bus. Kalau nak jalan kaki amik setengah jam dari train station..lepas tu kena lalu depan kawasan perkuburan paling besar di hemisfera selatan. Memang lah tak "spooky" macam kubur kat M'sia..tapi malas ah..kunci swap masuk lab pun tak update since last semester...baik dok umah n sediakan slides presentation kat umah. Pastu kena prepare poster untuk conference di Blue Mountain. Dua-dua dah siap..yahoo.
Btw, semalam day light saver. Kena tambah 1 jam sebab siang dah cepat benau. Setiap kali masuk Oktober..memang macam tu. Sekarang instead of beza 2 jam dengan M'sia dah jadi 3 jam. Hmm..yang kelakarnya kekonon semalam semua dah bangun awal nak pi Parramata pukul 10..tapi terlupa pasal kena tukar waktu ni..so terlajak pi pukul 11. Tapi yang best masa sekarang ni siang dan malam sama panjang waktunya..so kalau nak balik pukul 6..tak lah gelap macam musim2 sebelumnya. Ada balance gambar yang baru di upload kat bawah ni..Maaflah..kali ini bahasa cincai. Nak cepat..bye.

Raya equals to no raya

Exactly a week ago, we were about to celebrate Eidul Fitr. This entry is consider as "basi" then.
I just took a day off during the celeb. and came back to uni the next day onwards cracking my head to solve
lotsa problems and analysing data. Anyway, here in Aussie they don't give holiday for all the ethnics or religous celebrations unlike in M'sia. Well..if there is a longer holiday, still life would be the same during raya here..no relatives and close friends to celebrate with. So, raya = no raya. Just a re-cap on the holly day, daddy went to the mesjid and perform the prayer, went back and had our big breakfast and taking a few pictures to share with family and friends at home.

Terlebih dahulu, kami sekeluarga ingin mengucapkan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri dan Maaf Zahir & Batin kepada kaum keluarga dan saudara mara di Malaysia dan rakan-rakan yang ter'surf" blog ini. Kimi dah setahun tapi puting masih jadi pujaannya. Kimi dah ligat, bila celik mata asyik nak jalan je. Kimi suka baca buku..nampak sheep dia pun berbunyi baaaa..nampak lembu, dia berbunyi mooo..kimi suka binatang. Kimi suka makan, dah pandai ngendeng bila mummy makan dia pun nak sikit. Kimi cute and hensem. Tapi kalau marah suka baling barang. Apesal ek? E...sayangnye kat kimi.

Kimi's birthday was actually on the 18th Sept. but most of us are working so postponed Kimi's birthday party plus iftaar celeb. to closest friends on 20th Sept-Saturday. Iftaar time always coincides with Kimi's sleeping time. That's explained why he looked quite confused to see so many people in the house.

A) My work. I've reach to the point..the suffer and thrill of phd joyride.
I'm so greedy.
1)I want to finish my first draft for intro before 16th Oct. It's halfway now.
2)I want to finalised my Chapter 2 before 7th Oct. It's 95% completed. I have to attend the faculty annual progress report interview on that day.
3)I want to finish analysed my combination Ind. data arrangement by tommorrow. It's drives me nuts..it seems that I've been loading all sort of different stuffs i.e. parameters from the software since I gave birth to Kimi and Kimi is 1 year old now.
4)I want to finish setting up my presentation slides by this coming Sunday. The presentation will duly on 16th Oct. At the same time I hope to use the same data for another conference which will commence in Nov.
Other things that I got to sleep on for few days are reading the Melanie software and up-dating Chapter 3.
All of these because..my supervisor reckons that I can submit my thesis by May next year. Part of me still not convince though. I need energy booster. It's gonna be soon man!!! And I wanna have a break in Goldcoast in Dec. without cramping my Otak. So lets cramp the otak before Dec. comes.

B) Raya
This raya I still got to go to the labs. Wish I can bake some decent cookies this weekend..just wish but who knows. But surely I'll cook lodeh for my dear hubby. Shall I wear baju kurung to the lab during raya day? The lagu raya in Suria FM drives me nuts too. I miss raya in M'sia.
Btw, I gonna miss ramadhan.

A Critical Year Indeed

This is my final year of my PhD candidature, a critical year indeed. How time just passing by like a speed of light. Still have two major experiments to complete. One is in its halfway, and another one must be restart and both will be done concurrently. Previous data is now being churned slowly and hardly. Lots of transformations must be made to obtain the conclusions. The grey matter has becoming white; feels like the flow of thoughts is solidifying. Wish I still have the youth brain to digests all these complicated matters. Thesis must be written from now on. Another baby must be made; that's my hubby's plan. Ohw..can I catch up with all these..Insya Allah, pray for the best. The alma matter is shown belowIn the Quandragle

We were in M'sia from 12-25th August. This was the second time we went to back to M'sia for this year. Infact, the flights for this trip were booked earlier than the first trip. The reasons was primarily to attend Affin's wedding and visit all relatives in Johor, mummy's and daddy'd birth place. The trip was very memorable one and "diseases-free" - non of us were sick, alhamdulllilah. This time we had almost complete rations in Johor, name it from otak-otak, mee rebus hj wahid, ABC, to name a few. Luckily the fasting month has arrived for the detox process.

Mummy was very busy last month of July; trying to finish the first round of her experiments and preparing for a conference presentation. The weather was wet and gloomy too. Mummy did not had spare time to update this blog.
Surprisingly the weather tremendously changed went Tok Man's arrived since 1st August. There must be some chemistry between the weather and Uncle Man huh..he..he..Today is his last day here before all of us will fly back home. We just been back from the main campus, University of Sydney. The uni is awesome. My hubby said that the uni is bigger than University of Sheffield.

Yesterday, daddy brought us to Sydney WildlifeWorld and just paid AUD10 for the whole entry since we got the coupon from the Sunday Telegraph last weekend. It was fun and Kimi enjoyed his day out. The weather was good. No more trainworks to the city centre on weekend. So, it's a smooth trip. We embarked at city hall and exit via Queen's Victoria Building (QVB). While we were there, managed to bought our lunch which comprised of krispy kreme and calamari sets. Also brought some puffs from home. Ohw..our home and away soaps has started..gotta go now and enjoy the pics. There are not in order though..We came across a Jazz and Blues Festival..wow..if Uncle Man is here, he would enjoy the events which took place for the whole weekend. Kimi had fallen into sleep due to nice breezy weather.

It's been a while being off from writing in this blog. It's already winter since the first June and it's been raining for the the whole weekdays for last week. Fortunately the weekend are longer with an extra day off on monday due to Queen's birthday and it was sunny on Saturday so we took the oppurtunity to stroll along Darling Harbour and its nearby Tumbalong Park. On the 18th May, last sunday, we had our picnic at Japanese Garden @ Auburn Botanical Park, Sydney together with the other M'sian members who live at this side of Sydney. Only 3 families and shikin..that's about it. Our campus are in Cumberland and Westmead. That weekend was fun to get together and enjoyed the autumn season..a bit cold but worth it. After the picnic, we went around the garden. Of couse there were no more sakura flowers and roses this time around but the fresh air and scenery was splendid. Kimi liked the trip very much. Enjoy the pics.

Tapi mummy bukan melayu mudah lupa ok. Cuma lupa nak document kat sini..last weekend b-day daddy yang ke..lihatlah gambar. Hu..hu..muda lagi kan. Jangan marah ye. Mother's day pun jatuh pada weekend lepas. Kali ni memang lah tak outing or dinner kat luar. Sebab kimi ni cepat boring. Kalau dukung pun dia tak boleh tahan lama..dia boleh rolling badan dia waktu dokong dia. Yang kesian nanti, dia pun nak makan apa yang kita makan..and that is a "no-no" sebab giginya belum tumbuh lagi. So, mummy cooked for daddy combo steaks: ada lamb cutlets dan steak..bahagian yang mana dah tak ingat. Tapi daging kat sini memang best sebab cuttingnya cantik-cantik da tak payah masak lama-lama untuk empuk. Kalau nak resepi..tanya je lah..

Just the three of us

It has been 8 days since we left KL. We got to get use with the life of just three of us again. Of course we have friends but that's not the same as having close knit families. Weather has become totally different when compared to before we went back. It's late autumn and it's cold. There are several degrees of coldness here but still mild if compared to UK. Sometimes it's hard to decide on which jacket or coats to wear. Like today, it was drizzling in the morning, so I wore long coat with the scarf..but at 4.30 pm..the weather just tune back fine..I felt warmer and silly in the coat. There was no space to keep it in my bag that was already filled with enough papers and formulas. Argh..also there was my emptied plastic "tapau" need to be "re-cycled" everyday with different meal. I checked the meals sold at the hospital..erghh..it was awful and didn't met my real taste bud for lunch. Yeah..I'm just starting my proteomic work in the lab in one of the hospitals in sydney (not royal north shore..of course). I'm the only researcher working on it in that lab at the moment with the help from my co-supervisor associate. Will blog about it later.

As for Kimi and his dad..they live dormantly during weekdays..sometimes daddy brings Kimi out to shop, etc. Kimi is 7 months old now. He's still teething. Wonder when it will come out. He's drinking more milk..so Tok Man..you don't have to worry. He's on 3.5 scoops now. He's got his solid food everyday. He doesn't like blackcurrent juice so the juice will find its way to Kimi's parent throats..he..he..Kimi eagers to stand but right now on his knees. Kimi..kimi..

Next..daddy' s b-day is just around the corner..

Btw..there were much stories to tell during our stay in M'sia but..we don't have much spare time these days. So, please be patience with us. Leave a comment will ya..

Part 5: Final

Where were we? oo..Yes, we were offloaded from the plane and took the cab straight to mak idah (my hubby's aunt)and uncle seman's house.. things happened so fast that on the same night the three of us were "in" the Ampang Puteri hospital for up to 3 days. This was due to Kimi's flu and cough. Poor him..he looked skinnier and so sick. I knew he was so uncomfortable with the treatments especially when the drug was given via nebuliser plus the physio to remove lotsa his mucous. This was the first time seeing him very inactive after he was born. Both of the parents still having the coughs too. Blame the hospital's air-cond. Ironically, we "check-out" from the hospital on the same day Abah was released from IJN. This time we just lepak at Ampang rather than Kelana Jaya waiting for the healing and the next Sunday off we flew back to Sydney.

After we landed (27/5/2008)..which everything went so smoothly with happier and cheeky Kimi around, we got a sad news. Wak dol, my uncle, my mom's only elder brother passed away. Al-Fatihah to him. Pray that his ruh is peaceful. We was shocked since he wasn't really attached with any chronic disease. As far as I'm concern he watched his diet well. Again, this is all Allah's plan. We will never know when will be our turn. Death can comes with all causes or none. People always associate certain diseases and ageing person to death..but that's not all true. They can live longer and healthier people can die faster..with Allah's will..with any cause or none.

So, that's our ups and downs journey back to m'sia. Life must go on even it is hard to swallow. There must be blessing in disguise. At least we met most of our families after about a year being separated by distance. Yet, this work must be continued and hope to see the rest of our clans in a few months time during Affin's wedding.

Our Story Part 4: Bug Spread

We had plan to stay the most in KL for up to 2 weeks. However, that's a human planning which not neccessarily hit success. A week after our stay in KL, I got a terrible flu plus itchy and coughy throat. Not long after that Kimi also got the flu with mucous in his esopahagus and pharynx. Then finally abang got it. The whole week was like hell and it was a stay-at-home sessions in the hope of speedy recovery. Met two different doctors for Kimi treatments. We didn't get to meet abah with these bad conditions of ours. Sunday came, and it was time to fly back to Sydney. By that time all of us just start to recover especially Abang. But our cough especially Kimi's was still bad. Worst thing was that each time Kimi's cough was followed with vomit. Once it was happen after check-in in the international airport..another one was in the plane when everyone were just about to be seated. That was when a new history happened. We were off-load from the airplane immediately. Now, our stay was post-poned. Till when?? wait till our next story..

Our Story Part 3: Meeting Abah

So, we saw abah at IJN a day after we landed in KL. Abah or Tok Maman (that's what his grandchildren called him) looked skinnier than before. He had just building his appetite with the help from Mak of course. Mak did the feeding..hu..hu..how romantic. since Abah was still in ICU, we just allowed to see him in couple and just for an hour per day. Kids were not allowed at all.

A couple of days after, Abah's health was getting better but his conditions were still strictly being monitored. Abah's heart beat must be stabilised before endogram could be performed on him. Endogram is a processed to detect percentage of blockage in the heart I suppose so. The results will determine what to do next by the doctors. It seems that Abah need to face an operation but the event will take place in September, after Affin's wedding.

Our Story Part 2

Probably jut a week after that we received a news that tok Maman was critical in IJN. We knew earlier that tok Maman was admitted to IJN a couple of weeks before that but that time..mak already cried in the phone and said it probably best for us to go back and see dad. That was on Friday and we couldn't get any ticket on Saturday cause it was full. So, on Sunday off we flew with Jetstar. Our feelings were rather mix. Worried about dad's condition and at the same time we felt happy to meet our family. This was the first time for both our parents to see their grandson; as for my mom..Kimi is his first grandchild.

This was our first time being seated first (since we have a baby). Normally we saw others with babies bing called to on board first..now it's our turn. The baby bassinet just as small as Kimi. Knowing Kimi's sleeping pattern, that would be not so comfortable for him to move around during his sleep. Yes, Kimi never sleeps in one same position. But luckily it jut 8 hours flight..that's why I felt releived in chosing Aus to further my studies. In emergencyevent like this, we hope that we could reach M'sia the soonest. If I still choose UK..we will deal with much tougher journey. Even now..I feel I can't wait to finish my studies.

When we arrived at KLIA..we were surprised to see many members from my family side waiting for us at the arrival gate. My mom was really excited and everyone of course this time rushing to see Kimi first. We were just second priority to them..sob..sob.

Hi everyone!

Sorry folks..wherever you are, we are really sorry for not updating this blog about a month now. There are some reasons of course. Starting from the action of we were moving out into a new unit since the bloody previous estate agent (BPEA) had increased the rental price whenever they wanted to. This particular BPEA had increased the rental price within 3 months up to AUD320 per week..just imagine if they keep increasing every quarterly..hu la la..by the end I submit my thesis..we probably ending up using the scholarship just to pay the rent. That's no way to happen man! So we move out and didn't have to pay that bloody high rental price.

Mummy really wanted to go to Manly last weekend but daddy said it's quite far. So, mummy compromise pergi seberang jambatan je lah. Selalunya, kita tengok jambatan Sydney Harbour dari Circular Quay..sekarang the opposite pulak. Kita pergi ke Milson Point pulak..tak tau rupa-rupanya Luna Park pun kat situ. Baru tau tak semestinya naik feri ke Luna Park. Mula-mula Kimi excited sangat nak keluar..nengoklah mukanya dalam gambar. Kita jalan-jalan di Milson Point dulu. Kimi suka tengok laut. Agaknya dia pelik tengok laut mengalir. Kemudian masuk Luna Park. Percuma! Melainkan nak main mainan di situ macam roller coaster dan benda alah yang menggugurkan jantung. Siapa nak naik kena bayar..ada package. Bayaran mengikut ketinggian. Semakin tinggi orang tu..semakin mahal harga tiket..ada ke patut kan. Tak kuasa den nak main. Daddy main game pukul-pukul. Siapa paling kuat pukul dapat hadiah..hmm..apa daddy dapat..mainan tiup-tiup belon..aiseh..ingatkan dapat spiderman. Oklah tu..lain kali cuba lagi..salah teknik pukulan je tu. Kimi jumpa clown tinggi. Okeylah, dia tak takut pun. Rasanya kalau dapat, dia nak tarik rambut clown tu. Macam-macam bendalah kimi suka. Nasib baik dia kecik seco'et lagi..kalau tak habislah duit daddy dan mummy kan. Hampir tiga jam jugaklah kami habiskan masa di Milson Point dan Luna Park. Keluar dari Luna Park..Kimi terus tidur sampailah balik rumah. Penat sungguh dia. Bangun-bangun air liur banyak..apalah Kimi. he..he..Next time kita pergi beach ye

Two weeks ago

It's been pretty busy weeks. So many experiments-optmising the new one, so many results to analyse-the old one and preparation for presentation, etc. We were scouting for a new unit too. Yes, here in Oz..they call apartment as unit..weird huh? They call highway or motorway something else..I forgot what it was. Burger King is Hungry Jack here. Semua orang tak sikit-banyak mesti ada krisis identiti.

We thought of going to Darling Harbour but there was some railworks ongoing..it took like 45 minutes from Auburn to Central so we might just go off from the train straightaway at Central. Daddy went to his favourite basement bookstores. We managed to buy 8-10 books for just below AUD30. Pretty cheap eh..the books are not way beyond our time. I can say all are pretty recently published.

Kimi? Well, Kimi is getting naughtier. He can manoeuvre like 360 degrees already on the same spot and "gostan" most of the time. He is our entertainer.

Note: Gostan means moving backward. Ala..gohead gostan pun tak tau ke? Kita orang Malaysia lah.

For this absent minded akak..I couldn't remember whether I had presented Seri with something or not. I did promised Aqil with a token of price (which will be handed through my other sister Indah)..and then I thought of Seri. Next time please reminded me if you guys (my siblings) deserve any tokens okey.
Congrats to Intan for completing his diploma in Engineering and Ayu for her new permanent job. To Indah..bottoms up to you too for getting a new path of carrier and a weekdays job only at last.

Supposedly I should start my next experimental works at the hospital in Jan. But..ada je hal..cells k-o la, chemicals tak sampai lagilah..lepas tu ada regulation baru pulak from the hospital. Diorang nak tengok semua rekod vaccination I. Kalau tak tak leh start kerja. Leceh betul..last friday pergilah jugak jumpa ketua nurse diorang bhg admin (itupun setalah my hubby tolong book kan)..ingat boleh nego tak payah kena cucuk (sebab dalam kepala ni terbayang kena cucuk macam bcg bla..bla..)..tup..tup..kena ambik darah & injection. Injection tu namanya mantoux test..eee..apakebendanyalah..yang i tau ada kena mengena pasal tb. tadi google jap kat sini..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantoux_test
Tak yah la nak cerita..baca sendirilah ye..esok kena pergi lagi sekali..diorang nak tengok results kat tangan I. alalalala..I boleh tengok sendiri sekarang resultsnya takde bengkak pun..ada tanda merah seciput je tak lebih 5mm. Apala..orang nak buat experiment..diri sendiri yang kena di experiment dulu. Results darah tu keluar dalam masa 10 hari..la...lagilah lambat lambat lagi nak start..
Anyway, ok jugak kot..at least I boleh baca journals yang berlambak2 tu plus buat protein collections banyak-banyak. Dapat 1mg pun dah ok..sebelum ni dapat ciput je..5ug from sejuta cells. Kena amplify ma..jadi 100 juta. Hopefully, dapatlah conclusive results by July..so that bulan August ni boleh balik m'sia dengan gembira. balik kejap je..sebab adik ipar kahwin. Ee..tak sabarnya kami nak balik..

Yesterday we went to Parramatta Westfield shopping Mall just to survey Kimi's baby chair, etc. We went to Toys'r'Us. Compared to the one we have at OU, KL..here the have so many varieties of toys. Hmm..after +-x/ we left the store and did some stores hopping..syok..window shopping ni..kimi pun suka..siap buat sound lagi..

We decided to feed him with the solid food after seeing a few signs made by him. So , we started off with rice cereal..made from manually blended porridge. Tried the instant one, but felt guilty. So, made the fresh one. He seems just okey. We stopped after a while since the responsed wasn't good enough but he made the sign again. This time, we bought pumpkin-sweetcorn from Heinz brand suited for babies of 4mnths++ old. Walla..he really liked them..After a while, mummy prepared the fresh one. This time, the menu will include manually blended patato and carrot. Mummy squash them separately with chicken soup. This first step of this feeding is to familiarise him with the texture of solid food. He still being feed with milk according to the same schedule. If not he will melalak..

kimi new routine and it's a ROUTINE for him now...

The picture above was captured by daddy before we entered our fav. supermarket last weekend while suddenly he was approached by his "new lovely friend" who claimed that he was from Indon. Mummy maintained smiling but daddy started to turn pale. This friend just turned up out of nowhere with his big yellow bike (bigger than bmx..I tell u!) and started to chat with my hubby and persuaded my hubby to agree to whatever he said. He chatted so loud that the people who sat besides me started to stare at us. He kept talking about himself like he had been in diff. part of M'sia..etc..etc. I sensed that the guy must be OTC. I knew by the look of my hubby.."cepatlah kimi habis minum susu ni, so tak yah layan org ni". When the friend started to ask in a provoking manner regarding the relationship between M'sian and Indon in the past, Kimi just finished his drink. What a relief! Without further ado..daddy said to the friend that we got to rush to the supermarket since it was late already and he looked pretty angry. I couldn't even managed to burp Kimi man..we just doze off into the supermarket. While we was in the vege. section, my hubby saw his friend at the entrance arguing with the guard because they didn't allow him to enter with his bike. I just knew by then that the friend was drunk. Daddy couldn't concentrate with whatever talking that I did since daddy was calculating inside his head a plan to sort of run away from his friend if he's still waiting for us outside..eeee...how spooky..luckily the guard didn't allow him inside and we didn't saw him again when we went out from the supermarket.

Note:
Actually during the weekend, we didn't have any particular shopping to do..it just the ROUTINE for kimi lah. Dia ni kalau dah petang je nak jalan2..haritu pulak hujan..mana boleh pergi park..so pi lah supermarket..hmm..nasib tak baik jumpa kawan baru daddy. Tak sempat nak ambik gambar mamat tu..tapi boleh bayangkan iras-iras antara Mat Sentul dan Wahid Satay. Dia salam daddy 2 kali okey...nasib baik tak salam keruk...he..he..

Kimi just turned 4 months old on 18th Jan. last Friday. Alhamdullilah, he's growing fine. Daddy said he's characters started to show up. Lately, he's a bit grumpy due to the teething process. He bites really hard while his saliva pouring out of his mouth down to his chin and smuttered all around his face. Sometimes, he managed to laugh and be cheeky. He likes to scream when nobody is nearby as if asking for attention. His voice pitch can be really high nearly like the late Pavarotti..he..he..Mummy can get dizzy hearing his screaming sound. Once, he is cuddled by one of us, he will start smiling again..and..he likes to be photographed.

Kisah Cinta Dua Sebatian

Saya akui saya saintis yang tak pandai menulis kisah cinta. Apatah lagi menghasilkan sebuah filem seperti Cinta arahan Kabir Bathia yang popular tahun lepas di Malaysia. Saya dan suami menonton kisah tersebut..lebih kurang sama plot macam cerita Love Actually. Ada banyak cerita dalam satu cerita. Begitu juga dengan kajian yang sedang saya lakukan ini. Saya boleh kaitkan antara cinta manusia sama saja antara cinta sebatian yang sedang dikaji. Dalam kajian saya, saya adalah "match-maker" di antara dua jenis sebatian. Satu jenis sebatian datangnya daripada dalam bumi dan bersifat logam yang tiada unsur karbon di dalamnya (inorganic), manakala satu jenis sebatian lagi datangnya daripada tumbuh-tumbuhan dan mempunyai unsur karbon (organic). Seperti dalam kisah cinta, apabila dua jiwa bertemu, adalah diharapkan kedua-duanya akhirnya bersatu ke jinjang pelamin, tapi tidak semua kisah percintaan itu berakhir dengan kegembiraan. Ada yang bersatu, tetapi bercerai juga akhirnya disebabkan faktor lain yang menghalang (resistant factor) hubungan itu berterusan. Samalah dengan hasil kajian saya yang cuba "match-making" kan kedua jenis sebatian tersebut. Saya telah cuba "match-making" kan di antara empat jenis sebatian logam dan juga 6 jenis sebatian dari tumbuh-tumbuhan. Maknanya jika mereka ini manusia, saya perlu "match-making" kan 24 pasangan (couples). Jika kita samakan dengan sifat manusia, sebatian berunsur logam ini adalah seorang yang bengis tapi dalam hatinya baik manakala sebatian tumbuhan ini telah diketahui umum bersifat pemurah dan tidak banyak kerenah dan popular dikalangan umum (jadi tidak payah lah saya susah-susah hantar rombongan merisik untuk mengetahui sifat jahatnya). Hypothesis saya, dengan "match-making" kan sebatian logam ini dengan sebatian tumbuhan adalah untuk meghilangkan sifat "bengis" (toxic) sebatian logam ini dan menyerlahkan lagi sifat baik hatinya itu. Pada mulanya saya berdebar samada jika semua kisah cinta dua sebatian ini akan menemui kegagalan. Tetapi saya SUKA kerana saya telah menjumpai jawapannya semalam. Memanglah sama seperti manusia, ada beberapa "couples" yang saya "matchmaking" kan ini tak ngam langsung dan bersifat antagonis. Ada yang pada awal-awal ditemukan nampak baik belaka tetapi ianya tidak berkekalan.
Agak pening jugak saya mahu menguruskan kisah cinta dua sebatian ini. Akhirnya, saya hanya memilih untuk menguruskan kisah cinta dua sebatian yang benar-benar "deeply in-love" (working synergy together). Selepas ini saya perlu mendapatkan cerita bagaimana kisah dua sebatian yang berjaya disatukan ini dapat mengekalkan kegembiraan mereka.

Author: Michael Crichton

Recently, despite all the workloads that I have, I managed to indulge myself reading a story book as mentioned above. It had been quite sometimes for me to read again after The Baby Trail by Sinead Moriarty and a long list of scientific journals. This book is awesome (7/10) since it is related to my working background. The story is a kind of exaggerating when it comes to genetic application (what do you expect..ini Michael Chrichton lah..penulis cerita Jurassic Park tu).

To sum up, the story circulated around the issues of
- what it would be if the cells or genes can be owned (dalam cerita ni best..)
- manipulation of DNA recombinant products - the core plot (monyet, parrot, etc.. boleh bercakap..tu yang tak tahan tu..)
- enzymatic uses (entah apa2 protein code la dia guna..anyway, it's fiction..sukati si crichton la kan)
- manipulation of patenting process (dalam cerita ni, judge terpaksa ambik satu hari nak fikir pasal nak tarik balik ke tak ownership of the cells)

The casts:
-The villains: University's professor, The boss(es) of the biotech. companies, all the big guns, etc..
-The mangsa: The daughter and grandson of the cells' owner
-The opportunist: The man of his own cells (at the end)
-The pencacai: The middle man aka chaser of the cells

Points to ponder:
- ada orang complain dalam wikepidia, M. C. tak sepatutnya guna wording Proteonomics..sepatutnya Proteomics la beb (itu awal-awal lagi I dah detect..siap komplen kat my husband lagi). Ye la..kalau proteonomics tu dah maksud lain pulak protein+genomic+genomic? Apa hal pulakkan. Ke protein +economics..ha..ha..)

-watak dalam cerita ni ramai yang amat..sesiapa nak baca...pandai-pandailah. sebab tu I mentioned the main casts kat atas ni

-best cerita ni sebab boleh berangan jadi kaya kalau ambik biotech ..eleh ni kat US je lah..takkan terjadi kat M'sia punya (tak baca buku ni pun dah berangan mat jenin)

-ikut cerita ni FDA yang control segala-gala..hmm..kalau betullah..sampai the end of the world kita tak boleh nak market kan drug sendiri

Everyday is a new day for Hakimi. Something had happened yesterday. After he had his last meal before midnite, he didn't want to sleep and we wondered why and put him back on his day-time "platform" bed. Suddenly...he turned his body over..walla..dia dah meniarap sendirilah..terkejut daddy and mummy.

Today, he tried again after he had his bath. After a while, kimi's got stuck in his position and he cried..he..he..kesiannya dia. Terpaksalah daddy nya baringkan dia semula.

This picture was taken last weekend I think. Look at the water in the basin. It's like the one in the jacuzzi. But, it is not a jacuzzi basin! Ha..camana ye jadi begitu. It came from kimi's kickings in the water. Aiyo..ini budak kecik kan..dia ingat besen ni besar macam kolam renang ke...habis air bersepah kat carpet..

To the viewers out there..again Selamat menyambut awal muharram. Di M'sia cuti, di Sydney pun cuti (ambil cuti sendiri ;)). At this time around, the university seems to look like a haunted playground because the undegraduates haven't start their schooling yet. I'm taking a day off today to cool off this grey matter of mine (dah tua ni..tak banyak free Gegabytes yang tinggal agaknya). Come to think of it, I wasted two hours in yesterday's evening just processing this mind about protease inhibitor in the new set of protocol that will be used later on. It certainly inhibit my time!

Lately, life has been tied up with loads of digestions on numbers, numbers and numbers. My vision became blur and my mind stuck somewhere after so much informations being accumulated. Satisfied but tiring. Although mature in age, life seems not revolving as it is expected to be that is due to this commitment to this silly ambition of getting another degree. Previously, it is only me that facing this unrevolving life. Now, I drag all my family along. Like one of my sifu said..slowly but surely, we will reach at the end of the tunnel. What is the world out there?

Apa ada dengan tahun baru? For me "elek pucik"..it is just another new day of a new month.

All of us were enjoying our time together at home before the mummy continues with her studies..kwang..kwang..kwang..(my hubby is accompanying me typing this stuffs...)

During this x-mas and new year holidays, I managed to

- cook several fancy dishes for my hubby and he cooked two western meals for my b-day during the previoue x-mas eve

Auburn Steak ala ddin

- kemas dan pack baju2 kimi yang dah kecik. mak oii..banyak nye topi si kimi..ada dalam belasan..tapi dia ni tak suka pakai topilah..mesti nangis

- siapkan 'homeworks' dalam excel files malam-malam buta

- shopping masa boxing day sales

last but not least..layan kerenah si kecik ini..

Tok Man and family's holiday in Sydney

Tok Man, Tok Nah, their kids and my younger sister Indah came to visit us as well as having their holidays last month. Uncle Man or Tok Man and Indah stayed just for a week (17th-24th Nov.), while my Aunt Nah or Tok Nah and her kids extended their holidays till 7th of Dec. It was a great cuti-cuti Sydney (see the slides below-that's just part of the summary of their staying here). We were so glad that they came and Aunt Nah look after us SO WELL including kimi!!! That was a second visit from Tok Nah and Tok Man. Till next time shall we meet again...

Kerjaku

Malam dah pukul 10.40. Semua orang dah tidur; lakiku dan anakku. Mungkin keletihan sebab dah dua hari keluar shopping. Semalam pergi Paramatta Westfield sebab boxing sale. Beli cadar Sheridan. Mama kata cadar jenis ni tahan lama. Dulu masa arwah papa pergi Australia, banyak dia beli cadar jenis ni dan bertahan sampai sekarang. Ye lah..dulu murah conversion ratenye..sekarang sale pun adalah rm300. Tutup mata jelah beli..jangan tak beli. Ada jugak skodeng Noritake..masya Allah..mahal yang amat..2o pieces je dah AUD200 lebih, kalau tak sale..mau 2 kali ganda (see pic. below). Darab 3 dah rm600..fuiyo..terima kasihlah ye. Ni auntie nah punya taste..bukan saya punya. Saya dan hubby, setakat corelle pun dah cukup baik.

My research:

Balik kepada kerjaku..aduhai..banyak nye file excels nak kena bukak lepas ni. Dulu masa dalam pantang dah bagi Qing 30 set data untuk dia re-analyse sebab boss nak present paper. Nasib baik da dia..kalau tak mau kena pergi universiti buat sendiri. Nak buat kat rumah masalahnya lesen untuk software calcusyn tu boleh pakai satu je. Yang tu kena pakai kat univ. la sebab ada student lain nak guna jugak.

Dulu dah buat semua..semua dah loaded dalam software tu adalah nak dekat 500 set data darab at least 4 repeats. Setiap kali dapat results memang cantik je masukkan data siap-siap..konon-konon tak le haru kelam kelibut nak kumpul data bila dah habis semua eksperimen. Bila naik univ. je Qing bagitau ada method baru untuk analyse results sebetulnya macam dalam publications. Kali ni kena pulak puratakan siap-siap semua data tu sebelum masuk dalam software tu lah. Baru siap satu perempat bab purata mepurata ni..tu pun kena trace 28 missing data. Naik ni kononya nak masuk data2 dalam software tu je. Dr Chan kat lab lain dah asyik e-mail tanya bila nak mai lab dia..dia ni associate kepada co-supervisor I. Qing or Dr Qing ni (pronounce as Chin) ni assistant kepada main supervisor I. Dia lah yang maintain lab, dialah tolong tunjukkan segala benda..minah ni boleh dikategorikan genius sebab benda yang dia tak buat pun dia boleh tolong analyse kan. Tak de dia hancus.

Kerja lain yang kena buat bulan depan:

-re-analyse data dalam calcusyn

-download reference yang seratus tu dalam end-note library ku (ni pun baru belajar..sort of kena force guna end-note; dulu hentam keromo je..tapi benda ni bagus sebab bab ref. nanti tak payah taip- dulu masa buat master dungu tak pakai benda ni, lagipun masatu benda ni belum popular)

-siapkan eksperimen copper binding

-siapkan protein extracts

-siapkan presentation untuk in-house seminar

-dah kena bukak chapter 3..

Aiyo..sempatke buat benda ni semua sebelum pergi lab Dr Chan. Lab dia bukan kat univ. tapi kat hospital. Btw, kat Oz ni ramai kaum cina okey; samake macam kat m'sia..diorang ni migrate dari mna ntah. Qing tu dari China. Dr Charles Chan ni tak tau dari mana..tapi sangat lah baik diorang ni.

Apam Balik

I've been searching of what kind of Malay cake or "kuih" that is the most easiest to prepare, tasteful and decent enough to share with my foreign friends here because once a while, we are having potlucks after our research meeting. Finally it's apam balik or shall I call it turnover pancake with a twist of slushy corn and ground peanuts in it. I got the formulae or recipe of this kuih from MyRecipe.com. It works! Except I didn't add the turmeric for colouring. I prefer the original colour. I prepared it again for my M'sian friend's eid gathering recently. Here is the pic: stacks of Apam Balik.

Hakimi mummy!! That's the words I always use to call him when he just wake up from all his

sleeps. Today, he is 3 months and 6 days old. As u can see in the picture above, his newly found hobby is to suck on his own fist or thumb. He's so chubby when compared to his early days, he was so light and tiny. He's daddy's and mummy's precious gift ever thus far. We pray that he'll grow up to be a better man and love him always. He's sleeping now and I miss him already.

End Semester Break

Baru nak jumpstart this brain, tiba-tiba kena cuti pulak. Univ. of Sydney katup sebab X-mas and new year holidays. Hmm..

FYI, I just become a mummy (not that mummia okey..tapi ibu) on 18th Sept. 07; and that was Ungku Mohd Hakimi's birthday.

To cut short, we call him kimi (see his pic. above..how cute is he?). I had taken a 3-month maternity leave before. Who had endorsed it? My sporting supervisor-lah. Apa dia kisah kan..yang akan menghabiskan thesis, I jugak. I just realised, I have like 18 months to go. Mamamia...sigh. Back to the main story, I had just been back to univ. two weeks ago. After had a break for such a long time, this brain nearly start to freeze. Luckily I have a good sifu to remind me all sort of stuffs that I'd been doing ths far and how unlucky I was that I got to "pomen" or re-analyse all my data and other related staffs again. Kononnye boleh lah habis sebelum cuti..tapi tak sempat babe. Rasanya ada dalam 500 data tu. Well, nampaknya cuti ni kena buat jugaklah yea..cause next Jan. dah kena start buat experiments.

Daddy: Jangan marah mummy tau kalau mummy asyik hadap computer. Nanti mummy masak lodeh 1 periuk besar fav. daddy.

Rain..rain..go away..

Yea, Its been raining since last week and it is summer in OZ. This weather reminds me of being in M'sia at this time around...musim tengkujuh. The weather forcast for next week would be rain..rain..and more rain. Hu...hu..what a gloomy season in this time summer! Anyway, the good thing is..we won't sweat like mad (my cousin called it "lecak kat ketiak")..like last year the temperature could be risen up to forty degrees. At least I have kimi and his dad around..so I won't be affected by the weather here.

To fill up the time and our stomach in the evening, we cooked Apam Balik. It's my first experiment ever to cook it. Well, this was my hubby's request. He said that he had not have it for a year. Being a passionate and talented "cook", I decided to try and cook it. Sorry, couldn't attach the picture of apam balik this time...me..too lazy to up load (technically it's my hubby's job..but he's too busy watching CSI Miami - entah la..I gave on Horatio lately..he's too "cool" to be true", I prefer CSI Vegas). But I have the picture of mee hoon soup..this food is reccommended to be eaten during the wet season like this..yummy. Btw, cooking apam balik was so easy..and I just realised it. How I wasted much money when we were in M'sia to buy it. Dah le isi jagungnye ciput..kali ni amik..boleh letak sukahati banyak mana jagung & kacang nye.
Maybe we can open one M'sian stall here ;)
